According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the full implementation of the Digital Employee Card in businesses in the manufacturing and retail sectors will take place from July 1st, 2024.
The decision for the final implementation on July 1st, which was published in the Government Gazette, was taken according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security after considering the demands of the market, and in particular the sectors of Manufacturing and Retail. During this period, businesses will have the time needed to adapt to the requirements of this multi-level and complex process. In particular, they will have to take the necessary steps that will result in synchronization with the information system Ergani II, which will become operational on July 1st.
As regards Ergani II, its operation is inextricably linked to the implementation of the Digital Employee Card in the specific sectors, in order to fully safeguard labor rights, as it will be possible at the same time to record any changes in working hours and overtime in the system.
Otherwise, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Domna Michailidou, said that “the extension of the start date of the imposition of sanctions in manufacturing and retail was taken in order to synchronize the businesses of these sectors with the implementation of ERGANI II. The progress of the implementation of the Digital Employee Card, in the sectors where it is applied, is incredibly significant. Already more than 3,500 employees, from 250 businesses, have been paid their accrued wages, thanks to the fact that they were identified by the electronic control of the Digital Employee Card”.
On the other hand, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, referring to the Digital Card, welcomed the fact that it is extended to more sectors. “There are people who are not pleased, but the Digital Card is a response to undeclared work and a tool for the Labor Inspectorate to do its job better and more objectively.”
